Game 1 of the NBA Finals begins tonight between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder. This has the potential to be one of the most exciting Finals in years and is expected to put up big ratings all around the country. In Miami who have the hated threesome of James, Wade and Bosh going up against a Thunder team led by homegrown stars who were put together through the draft. The NBA could not have asked for a better matchup.
Unfortunately success for someone means heartbreak for another. In this situation one city will suffer no matter who is lifting the trophy in a couple weeks. For the city of Cleveland their nemesis is Heat Forward Lebron James. While the hate for Lebron seems to be softening around the country, it is only getting stronger in Cleveland. This is a sports city that has not won a championship since the 1964 Cleveland Browns. We are approaching 50 years without a championship in Cleveland and Lebron James was supposed to be the “chosen one” to end that drought. Of course he never delivered and had his infamous “decision” to announce leaving Cleveland for better places. Rooting for Lebron James to lose is the closest the people of Cleveland can come to having that championship feeling.
The people of Seattle have not had as much heartbreak as Cleveland, but watching their team grow up into a potential championship team and even potential dynasty over in Oklahoma City is just hopeless and depressing. Oklahoma businessman Clay Bennett bought the team in 2006 with the intent to do everything possible to keep them in Seattle. When the city refused to pay for a new stadium for the Sonics Bennett with the help of NBA commissioner David Stern moved the team to his hometown of OKC in 2008. Keep in mind that the city just built new stadiums for the Mariners and Seahawks and the Sonics arena was only 15 years old. To compare, the Suns US Airways is approaching it’s 20th birthday.
Clay Bennett never had the slightest interest of keeping the Sonics in Seattle. Emails leaked with a couple of his partners where he said he was a “man possessed” to move the team to OKC. In the book “Bad sports” by David Zirin he gives a great story of what Bennett thought of Seattle. In his first meeting with all the executives of the Sonics after he bought the team, Bennett flew them all out to OKC and ate at a fancy restuarant. He gave them all a OKC delicacy which everyone loved. When asked what that delicacy was Bennett told them it was lamb testicles. I am sure you get the meaning he was giving the people of Seattle.
The cities of Seattle and Cleveland have gone through numerous heartbreak and I am here to investigate what city god hates the most because one of these cities will only be adding to their heartbreak when Lebron or Bennett lift that championship trophy.
As I mentioned earlier, Cleveland has not won a championship since the 1964 Browns. It is also not a good thing when the majority of the most famous moments in sports feature Cleveland on the losing end. Most of these moments even are titled such as the “drive”, “fumble”, “shot” and “decision”. These moments have defined Cleveland sports fans and a championship by Lebron will only add to this list.
“The Drive” 1986 Cleveland Browns
The Browns were hosting John Elway and the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. With 5 minutes left the Browns were up 7 and the Broncos were backed up at their own 2 yard line. From their Elway marched down the field and tied the game and the Broncos went on to win in overtime denying the Browns of a Super Bowl bid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bypo-WhahYo The last 5 minutes of the game.
“The Fumble” 1987 Cleveland Browns
The Browns again hosted the Broncos in the 1987 AFC championship game. In this game the Browns were down 7 but were on the verge of scoring when Running back Earnest Byner fumbled the ball right before he crossed the goaline with a 1:12 left. The Broncos recovered and went on to another Super Bowl.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DPeiUOakis The Fumble
“The Shot” 1989 Cleveland Cavaliers
In 1989 The Cavs were hosting the Bulls in the deciding Game 5 and were up one with the Bulls in-bounding the ball. As most basketball fans know Michael Jordan hit a game winning jumper at the elbow against Craig Ehlo to win the game. These are the most famous games in the history of their sports all happening in a 4 year span and Cleveland being on the heartbreak end of all of them. The sad thing is we are only half way through the list.

Browns move to Baltimore 1996
The Browns are one of the NFL’s historic teams playing in Cleveland since 1940. The NFL was so upset by owner Art Modell’s decision to move the team to Baltimore that he forced him to leave behind all the team’s history, colors and name and that his franchise in Baltimore resemble an expansion team. The NFL promised the city a new team when it had a new stadium and in 1999 the “new” Browns began NFL play. Unfortunately the “new Browns have been a major disappointment having yet to win a playoff game and have yet to find a franchise quarterback in 13 years. The Ravens led by Ray Lewis have had a decade long run of playoff appearances that have included a Super Bowl win in 2000.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylNnmmZI-v4&feature=related Browns last game in Cleveland 1995
Game 7 of the World Series 1997
The Indians finally make it on the list with a meltdown of their own! In game 7 of the World Series they took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th with closer Jose Mesa trying to save the game. Of course he blows the game giving up a sac fly to Craig Counsell that scores Moises Alou. The game goes to extra innings and with one out in the bottom of the 11th the Indians botch a routine double play ground ball that would have ended the inning. A couple hitters later Edgar Renteria wins it with a base hit up the middle scoring Craig Counsell. The Indians also lost the 1995 World Series to the Atlanta braves. A decade later they blow a 3-1 lead in the ALCS against the Boston Red sox in 2007.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0J8Pznxf5o Game 7 of 97 Series
I don’t think I need much explaining for this one. After another playoffs heartbreak for the Cavs Lebron James goes on National television and declares he is “taking his talents to South Beach” and leaves the Cavs in shambles. If/when Lebron wins a championship it will keep this moment up there with the greatest heartbreaks in Cleveland sports history. God hates Cleveland is something Clevelanders truly believe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHSLw8DLm20 The decision
We are now known of god’s hatred for Cleveland, but how does his hate for Seattle compare? Lets take a look. Seattle does not have the moments or individual games that Cleveland has besides the Seahawks Super Bowl loss to the Steelers. They do not even have that much heartbreak due to the fact their teams have not been very good for the majority of their histories. Their only championship comes from the Sonics in 1979. Seattle sports fans were really even thought of until Bennett hijacked the Sonics to OKC. Lets see how much pain seattle has dealt with.
The Mariners began in 1977 and went 14 years until they had their first winning season. It took 4 more years until they won their first playoff series. In 2001 they tied the regular season wins record with 116 but they failed to reach the World Series. In fact they are one of 2 teams (Washington Nationals) to have never even make the World Series let alone win. Since 2004 they have had only 2 winning seasons and have had 5 season of winning 69 games or fewer. They have seen guys like Alex Rodriguez and Randy Johnson win championships once they left Seattle. This team has not even given their fans much reason to get heartbroken. They have just been flat out historically irrelevant.
The Seahawks for the most part are in the same boat as the Mariners. Before a 2005 playoff win the Seahawks went 20 years without a playoff win. Not much for Seahawks fans to get upset about during that time frame. The top Seattle heartbreak moment comes in 2005 when they lost the Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10 in 2006. Seahawks fans believe they were on the bad end of many calls that changed the outcome of the game. They had a touchdown and interception called back due to penalties. This is a very sore subject for Seahawks fans and they have yet to recover save for their 7-9 division championship and upset win over the Saints in 2011.
The Sonics are or were Seattle. They were the one team that brought success to the city. They won the 1979 NBA finals and won conference championships in 1978, 79 and 96. They have had legendary players such as Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Ray Allen, Lenny Wilkens, Nate McMillan, Jack Sikma and Fred Brown wear a Sonics uniform. They even had a year of Kevin Durant to themselves before the hijacking. What the Suns are to Phoenix is very similar to what the Sonics were to Seattle. The pain that Seattle has gone through with having their team stolen will only multiply if Clay Bennett is holding the trophy in a couple of weeks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i48P28281sc RIP Sonics 1967-2008
The head is telling me that the hijackers take this series in 6 games. They just do not lose at home and I do not see the Heat winning a game in OKC. The Thunder can easily take a game in Miami and I do not think the Heat can match up down low with OKC bigs. The Heat’s strengths (Wade and Lebron) are equaled by Durant and Westbrook. That leaves James Harden giving the Thunder one up on the Heat. Then again after looking over the miseries of both cities it is almost a fact that god hates Cleveland. And for that fact I would highly recommend not betting on this series because Lebron and the Heat could win this championship and again, we know God hates Cleveland.

This has to be one of the best weekends that any calendar year can come up with. It is Christmas weekend with the bonus of having the NFL and opening day of the NBA all in one weekend (check back next week for my NBA preview). Can anyone come up with a more perfect weekend? Tomorrow morning we get to spend the day watching the NFL unless you have last second shopping to do which I would recommend doing today. Then after a full day of football it will be Christmas Eve and a night to be with your families and celebrate the holiday. Then on Sunday you get to wake up and open all of your presents from Santa and after that you get to watch 5 NBA games featuring probably 8 or 9 of the most interesting teams in the league. I almost forgot, you also get another football game to watch Christmas Night as well. I challenge anyone to come up with a better weekend than that. Football basketball, Christmas, family, Santa, gifts, traditions and fantasy. I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and Merry Christmas to everyone.
Back in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes
Minnesota Vikings 17 at Washington Redskins 21
St. Louis Rams 6 at Pittsburgh Steelers 23
Thanks to the Texans for playing the most conservative game in recent memory and to Dan Orlovsky for being on a mission to not lose his backup job to some rookie prodigy the Rams and Vikings are right back in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. The Colts play the Jaguars next week and with the way both teams are playing I am betting Colts which means if the Rams or Vikings lose out they will have the number one pick. For the Rams that probably means trading it and getting 4 or 5 extra picks. For the Vikings maybe the same maybe not. They just took Christian Ponder last year in the first round so I am not sure they take another 1st round quarterback. For the Colts I am benching Dan Orlovsky immediately and getting Curtis Painter back out onto the field.
Tampa Bay Buccanears 14 at Carolina Panthers 27
Raheem Morris is probably the next head coach to be getting the pink slip. It happens when you don’t win a game after October 16th. The Panthers are going to be a very good team for the next decade as long as they build a defense to go with Cam Newton and that run game.
Upset of the Week
Denver Tebows 17 at Buffalo Bills 23
I think it is hilarious that we finally have a city who could care less about Tim Tebow and that is Buffalo, New York. Buffalo as of Wednesday had not sold 24,000 of its tickets meaning it will be blacked out in the local area. This is my upset pick of the week mostly due to my gut instinct. My gut told me to take the Colts as I said on my Twitter @jesanders11 before the game, but of course I did not. Sorry Tim, Im going with my gut on this one.
Lock of the Week
Miami Dolphins 23 at New England Patriots 34
A win and the Patriots clinch a bye in the first round. That is all Tom and Bill need for me to make this the lock of the week over a tough Dolphins team.
Flip a Coin
New York Giants at New York Jets
Would anyone in their right mind even bet a dollar on this game? You are literally flipping a coin when picking this game. I will say Jets, but I don’t even have a score for you. Both teams have been major disappointments, yet the Jets with a win will probably get the 6th seed which means a game against the Houston Texans. After that would be a trip to face the Patriots who they eliminated last year. Jets fans you are welcome for that sliver of hope…Giants fans you are on your own.
Arizona Cardinals 20 at Cincinnati Bengals 16
Walking around the mall with my brother the other day we walked into the sports memorabilia store when we saw an autograph photo of Adrian Wilson. This wasn’t just any autograph photo either. This is what me and my brother agree on is Adrian Wilson’s greatest hit ever. The hit came on Bills quarterback Trent Edwards in 2008. The Bills came into the game 4-1 I think and they were the talk of the NFL. First series of the game on the 3rd play Dubs comes untouched and knocks out Edwards with a crushing hit. Pretty much ruined Edwards career and is probably the greatest hit in Wilson’s career. It was $25 well spent plus another 10 for a frame and it is now one of the prized possessions of our Cardinals room in our house. Here is the you tube link to the hit… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjpANEVexhY
Cleveland Browns 10 at Baltimore Ravens 21
Hopefully Anquan Boldin is only out the remaining two weeks and will be back come playoff time. The Ravens and Joe Flacco need him in that offense to have any success in the playoffs. I kind of feel like the Ravens spent so much time, energy and focus into beating the Steelers this year that every other game does not seem as important and that is why you see the losses to the Jaguars, Titans and Chargers among others. If they are not careful they could blow the division and have to go on the road again in the playoffs.
Jacksonville Jaguars 16 at Tennessee Titans 20
What is new owner Shahid Khan’s first move going to be for the Jaguars? A. Announce the team will eventually move to Los Angelos B. Hire a new coach or C. get rid of Blaine Gabbert and pretend he never existed in the franchise and trade the next 5 future first round picks to draft Andrew Luck??? Correct Answer is C.
Oakland Raiders 10 at Kansas City Chiefs 13
This is another game I have no idea of who to pick. I will take the Chiefs since they are at home and have the better defense. Where has Darren Mcfadden gone for the Raiders?? That one injury has probably cost the Raiders the division and first playoff berth since 2002. Very unfortunate for Raider Nation I feel for you guys.
San Diego Chargers 31 at Detroit Lions 24
The Chargers just do not lose in December. It is just not conceivable for Philip Rivers and Co to lose a game in December. This year may be the time where it is too little too late for them.
Philadelphia Eagles 26 at Dallas Cowboys 23
Here is how the Eagles win the NFC East…They win out, and the Giants lose this week and beat the Cowboys next week which would create a 3 way tie and the tiebreaker would belong to the Eagles. Dream Team is not out of it yet Ladies and Gentlemen!!!!!
San Francisco 49ers 20 at Seattle Seahawks 24
This is not another “I hate the 49ers pick.” This is a I am picking logically pick. The Seahawks can be almost impossible to beat at home when they are playing for something important which is for their playoff lives. Also, Seattle was only down 2 points before Ted Ginn took back a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown in the final five minutes to blow the game open in Week 1. This is one of my more for sure bets of the week. Take Seattle at home and thank me later.
Chicago Bears 7 at Green Bay Packers 24
Josh McCown is starting for the Bears this week in Lambeau Field. McCown has not started a NFL game since 2007. McCown started for the Cardinals back when they won 4 games a year almost a decade ago. Ladies and Gentlemen Merry Christmas!!!!
Monday Night Football
Atlanta Falcons 21 at New Orleans Saints 30
I am not sure why everyone is penciling in the Falcons for the playoffs. There is no way they win here in the Dome this week and next week they play Tampa Bay, which yes they are awful, but they will get up to play their hated rivals if they can knock them out of the playoffs. The Saints are my Super Bowl pick as of right now. Their only deficiency is playing on the road which they may have to do twice, but they are a good enough team to win 2 on the road and make the Super Bowl.
Last Week: 9-6
I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
With 75% of the NFL season complete I think it is time for another power rankings to take us down the home stretch. The small number on the right of every team is where they were ranked during my last power rankings post back in week nine. As far as my picks are concerned, which you can find at the bottom of this page, may seem kind of crazy to you. I am leaning toward the home underdog in many of my picks this week. Every so often you will have a week of games that just makes zero sense and I feel like this will be that week. If it wasn’t for the Browns lack of offensive power they would have started out the week on the right track for my “crazy week” prediction. This could take a while so let’s get on to my rankings.
Andrew Luck Division
32. Indianapolis Colts (32) 0-12
When you have not won a game all year then you probably are not going to be moving up in the rankings. Lets get a quick analysis of the Colts remaining schedule to find a possible win on there. @ Baltimore, vs Tennessee, vs Houston (Thursday), @ Jacksonville.
My quick take is they might even win 2 possible games. Both home games are very winnable games given the Texans quarterback situation now and Jacksonville might actually be worse than the Colts. If they somehow win 2 games, depending on the tiebreaker system might lose them Andrew Luck considering….
31. St. Louis Rams (24) 2-10
The Rams only have two wins themselves and no healthy quarterbacks. They could possibly start a guy named Tom Brandsteter at QB due to injuries to Bradford and Feeley. If the Rams have the first pick, even with Bradford could they still take Luck? Bradford only has thrown for 6 touchdown passes all year and without the trade for Brandon Lloyd it could be even less. With his struggles maybe he is not the savior of the Rams and if the Colts somehow get hot and lose Luck, it will make for a big decision down in St. Louis.
Blaine Gabbert division
30. Jacksonville Jaguars (28) 3-9
Ladies and gentleman, Now taking the field for the 2014 NFL season your Los Angeles Jaguars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
29. Minnesota Vikings (26) 2-10
You want to know a secret that has gotten no coverage?? The Minnesota Vikings do not have a stadium to play in next year. Their lease with their stadium runs out after this year and has yet to be renewed. A Minnesota columnist has even been tweeting things on this could be the final year in Minnesota if they refuse to vote for a new stadium. What happens then? Is it possible a team with a huge fan base and so much history can move?? Browns fans are nodding their head in shame. Art Modell is laughing hysterically.
Offensively inept division
28. Cleveland Browns (23) 4-9
A quick history… Art Modell moved the storied Browns after the 1995 season due to not being able to get a new stadium to Baltimore where he won a Super Bowl just a few years later. The Browns got an expansion team in 1999 and have made the playoffs once since then. They have had about 20 different quarterbacks with no hope in sight.
27. Washington Redskins (22) 4-8
Why, how, really??? are the questions I ask myself as to how the Cardinals lost to this team 22-21 back in week 2. Those are also the questions Redskins fans ask themself when they see Rex Grossman or John Beck play quarterback.
26. Tampa Bay Buccanears (15) 4-8
The Bucs took one of the biggest drops in the rankings. That is what happens when you have a historically tough schedule with a young team that overachieved a year ago. Head Coach Raheem Morris could be in some trouble if they don’t win a couple more games to close out the season.
25. Kansas City Chiefs (19) 5-7
In their last 5 games since their miracle MNF win against the Chargers the Chiefs have scored a grand total of….2 touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was their prayer against Chicago last week. Yes, I agree I have no clue how this team has 5 wins.
Dream Team division
Buffalo Bills (11) 5-7
The Bills are 1-6since Ryan Fitzpatrick signed his contract extension….oops.
23. Philadelphia Eagles (7) 4-8
I think this guy says it all….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x4DUrMz1Vw&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL61709C6BAE665CB2
22. Carolina Panthers (27) 4-8
Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers are going to be pretty good. Whoever they play here on out needs to be on upset alert.
21. San Diego Chargers (18) 5-7
Here comes the Chargers run down the stretch and no one is rooting for it harder than I am. I have Phillip Rivers on my fantasy team so I think it is time for himt ogo on his 300 yard 2/3 touchdowns a game streak he goes on every December.
Rocky Balboa Division
20. Miami Dolphins (31) 4-8
Is Matt Moore an actual franchise quarterback?? Could Tony Sparano actually save his job?? Has Reggie Bush actually found a job as a starting NFL running back?? Has the Miami Dolphins actually become the one team no one wants to face???
19. Arizona Cardinals (29) 5-7
If the Cardinals win this week they will almost be guaranteed of 8-8 with home games against Cleveland and Seattle still remaining. How amazing would that be considering they were at 1-6 with the Rams coming on the field to kick a potential game winning field goal just a few weeks ago??
18. Seattle Seahawks (25) 5-7
Could the Seahawks win out along with the Cardinals and force NBC to put another NFC west game on Sunday NIght football to end the year as they fight for the final NFC playoff spot?? The Cardinal season ticket holder in me would like to think so!!
New York Division
17. New York Jets (17) 7-5
16. New York Giants (16) 6-6
These two teams have moved up/down exactly zero spots. Mark Sanchez interception total has increased by about 41 since then as well.
Not quite ready division
15. Tennessee Titans (21) 7-5
Chris Johnson, Welcome back to the NFL!
14. Oakland Raiders (20) 7-5
Carson Palmer, Welcome back to the NFL!
13. Cincinnati Bengals (13) 7-5
Andy Dalton to A.J. Green will be putting up big numbers for a long time. But, as the 35-7 beat down to Pittsburgh shows…this team still is a year from making real noise in the AFC.
12. Detroit Lions (9) 7-5
I hope no one has bought playoff tickets in Detroit yet and if you did I really hope there is a way you can get your money back. This team has lost all self-control and that falls on the head coach. I would not even be surprised if they lose to the Vikings at home this week. When they get composure they will be a very good team, but until then… a bottom out finish of 8-8 is likely.
Jake Delhomme division
11. Chicago Bears (14) 7-5
The Bears did something bad karma wise for potential season ending injuries to both Jay Cutler and Matt Forte. They end up in the Jake Delhomme division because they have Caleb Hanie running plays for them with the potential of….Josh McCown, yes former Cardinal Josh McCown playing for the Bears this season. I feel like punching myself in the face and I could care less about the Bears!!!
10. Houston Texans (10) 9-3
It looks like T.J Yates might actually be decent enough to not blow the entire season for the Texans. But the legendary Jake Delhomme is looming and Vegas has to be TERRIFIED of the prospects of Delhomme in the playoffs facing Revis island and the NEw York Jets in round one.
Tony Romo Division
9. Atlanta Falcons (6) 7-5
8 Dallas Cowboys (12) 7-5
These two teams have all the talent to make a run to the Super Bowl, but there is just something missing with these two teams this season. I don’t think Atlanta has ever recovered from that Packers game last year. A game like that can really have a lasting effect on a franchise. The Cowboys meanwhile have the same issue every year. Something is just missing that you can never fully describe and if you watched them this week against the Cardinals I think you know where I am getting at. Super Bowl contending teams win games like that. The Cowboys are not contending for a Super Bowl this season.
7. Denver Broncos (30) 7-5
You know the Denver Broncos are going to make a run to the Super Bowl…how else will a team with Tim Tebow finish off this season?? People are now starting the arguments how the defense or Willis Mcgahee are the facts that are winning games. Yes, factually they are the facts of what is winning games for the Broncos, but the defense and running game is not what is REALLY winning games. The belief that this team has and the confidence they have with Tebow at QB is what is winning games. The Broncos are at a point right now where they KNOW that Tebow will make plays to win a game down the stretch. They KNOW the defense will come up with a stop or turnover when needed. They KNOW that they will win the game. When a team reaches this point they are very scary to play against and the sky is the limit for the Broncos this season. For everyone who says that the defense is winning games…ask them this… Are the Broncos 7-5 with Kyle Orton??
Alex Smith division
6. San Fransisco 49ers (8) 10-2
I will man up and take this space to congratulate the 49ers on winning the NFC West and making the playoffs for the first time since 2002. You guys deserve this and I wish you the best all the way to the NFC Championship game when we get to see Alex Smith in Lambeau Field in January. Comedy Central re-read what I just wrote….Alex Smith…in Green Bay….in January….
5. New England Patriots (4) 9-3
Tom Brady gives the Pats a chance every year to win the Super Bowl, but the defense just is not Super Bowl worthy enough for me to have them any higher than number five.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (3) 10-3
That was a gutsy win and a gutsy performance by Big Ben and the Steelers last night. Numbers 2-5 could go any numbers of ways and I pulled Pittsburgh out of the hat for number four, so please, all frontrunner Steelers fans do not complain to me about them not being number one. Take the number four ranking like a man and if you don’t like it switch your favorite team to the Packers.
3. New Orleans Saints (5) 9-3
If they can somehow still the 2 seed from the 49ers…. Comedy Central are you paying attention????? Alex Smith….in the Dome….in January!!!
2. Baltimore Ravens (2) 9-3
The Ravens get up for the big games and play down to their opponents. In the playoffs every game is a big game, so the playing down effect can not happen for the Ravens. The only person that can ruin the Super Bowl chances for this team is Joe Flacco…. Umm O.K all frontrunner Steelers fans now have permission to question why those two are not swapped in these rankings.
Discount Double-check division
1. Green Bay Packers (1) 12-0
Aaron Rodgers has the same number of rings as Favre, a better regular season than Favre ever had, and maybe the greatest commercial which is the opposite of what Favre has. You get where I am going with this?? Aaron Rodgers will have a better career than Brett Favre and I do not think that is going out on a limb anymore either.

Last week: 11-4
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is finding all those deals today on Black Friday. Here are my Week 12 Quick Picks of Sunday’s games…By the way with my 3-0 start to the week the hope is there for the perfect weekend! Here are the picks….
Lock of the Week
Minnesota Vikings 13 at Atlanta Falcons 27
If Adrian Peterson does not play do the Vikings have a chance to win at all the rest of this season??
Arizona Cardinals 17 at St.Louis Rams 13
Kevin Kolb may be back in the lineup making these last 6 games the biggest of his career to keep his job going into next season. By the way did you know Sam Bradford has only 5 touchdowns this season?
Carolina Panthers 28 at Indianapolis Colts 14
Colts are running out of chances…..
Buffalo Bills 10 at New York Jets 20
Bills are too beat up to pull out the upset in New York. It was fun while it lasted in Buffalo.
Houston Texans 19 at Jacksonville Jaguars 16
Matt Leinart finally gets his chance to show he can be a starting NFL Quarterback. The Texans have enough talent around him to squeak pass the Jags.
Toss up of the week
Tampa Bay Buccanears 24 at Tennessee Titans 20
This game can go a majority of ways. Matt Hasselback is banged up and Chris Johnson has as much motivation as I have to study spanish, so I am going with the team that can play Green Bay tough on the road.
Chicago Bears 10 at Oakland Raiders 17
Not really an upset with the Bears starting Caleb Hanie, but the Bears are good enough to still win this game and would not be surprised if they did.
Denver Broncos 9 at San Diego Chargers 27
Tim Tebow needs a reality check soon and the Chargers need to win soon. Those two collide this Sunday in San Diego and the Chargers win easily
Washington Redskins 14 at Seattle Seahawks 21
Seattle is a tough place for teams traveling from the east (ask Baltimore). It is especially tough if you have a bad team.
New England Patriots 31 at Philadelphia Eagles 17
With news that Asomugha got carted off practice yesterday and the lingering injuries to DRC the Eagles “vaunted” suddenly is looking pretty nice for Mr. Brady.
Sunday Night Football
Pittsburgh Steelers 27 at Kansas City Chiefs 13
Why did the NFL not flex this game out of the Sunday Night schedule???
Monday Night Football
New York Giants 21 at New Orleans Saints 28
I can’t predict the Giants this season. For all Giants games I would just pick the opposite of me for the rest of this season.
This Week: 3-0
What am I thankful for? That is the question I ask myself every Thanksgiving when I wake up as watch some of the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade until football starts. By the way we have some great football games this year on Thanksgiving. Even the “dinner break” game we thought we were getting between the Cowboys and Dolphins is now a bit intriguing by the fact of the Dolphins 3 game winning streak. But, until I get down to my Turkey Day picks I would like to share with you what I am grateful for this year. My list is in no particular order in case you are wondering.
I am thankful for my health. Our health can be taken from us at anytime. For example, my cousins good friend just got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She is a sophomore in high school and has less than a year to live. I pray every day for her and I hope all of you can take a few seconds out of your day to pray for this girl and reflect on your health and how lucky “we” have it to be able to know we have a full life ahead of us.
I am thankful for the ability to be writing these posts for you every week.
I am thankful for fantasy football.
I am thankful for football in general.
I am thankful for my dog Sparky.
I am thankful for a great group of friends that I have. I can count on all of them for anything at any time of day and I am very lucky to have a luxury of having so many friends like that in my life.
I am thankful for the NBA not playing this year due to ego issues. No NBA = another year of Lebron not getting a championship.
I am thankful for the Arizona Cardinals. All of my best memories growing up are of going to Cardinals games with my family.
I am thankful for my job. I may talk down about the Hut many times, but I am thankful to have a job and to work with some great people.
I am thankful for my girlfriend. She is the most amazing and sweetest person in the world and am lucky to have her in my life.
I am thankful for the holiday season.
I am thankful for my entire family. Our love as a family gives me the courage and motivation to go out and live my life and to be the best person that I can be.
I am thankful for everyone reading what I am thankful for when in reality you could care less. I will finally get onto the picks for Thanksgiving day football.
Green Bay Packers 31 at Detroit Lions 26
Did you know the Lions have played on Thanksgiving every year since 1934? I bet you didn’t even know they played on Turkey day since Barry Sanders retired. Well, the Lions are relevent again and playing a huge game against the undefeated and hated Green Bay Packers. Once the emotions settle down a bit I can’t see the Lions defense stopping Rodgers and the Packers defense will do just enough to keep the Lions from outscoring the Packers and to keep the Pack undefeated.
Miami Dolphins 20 at Dallas Cowboys 30
The Miami Dolphins have not only lost Andrew Luck, but they are on the verge of losing out on any other quarterback in the draft if they keep this up. They have won 3 straight games and Matt Moore looks to be their quarterback of the future. If the Cowboys get ahead big in this one at least most of us have a fantasy player or two on the Cowboys and hopefully they can all share the touchdowns for us (Demarco Murray).
San Fransisco 49ers 16 at Baltimore Ravens 24
The “Harbaugh Bowl” is a great way to end the night unless you are a Cardinals or Steelers fan and can not stand the sight of seeing success for either of these teams. Any time they talk about these teams I have to turn off the TVs because of my hatred for the 49ers. Not going to lie that this is a bias pick and my hope the Niners can finally lose again. For the record the Niners will not be making a playoff run by kicking field goals all game.
The rest of my picks will be up on Friday…hopefully I can be bragging about a perfect day of picks.
I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and hope everyone has a great day with those closest to them.
Why did the Denver Broncos beat the New York Jets last night? A better question should be, How did the Denver Broncos beat the New York Jets? That answer is very simple actually. The players on the Broncos believed more in their quarterback than the Jets believed in theirs. The Broncos KNEW that Tebow was going to somehow find a way to give them a chance to win while the Jets KNEW that Sanchez would do something to make it harder on themselves. Raise your hand if you were shocked when Sanchez threw that Pick SIx??? (Crickets) Raise your hand if you were expecting Tebow magic on his game winning drive?? Everyone is raising their hand right now. The Jets can not be a playoff team with Mark Sanchez unless they have a strong running game anda strong defense and the Jets have neither this year.
Good thing I did not choose this game or it would have given me another loss. I have been struggling the last couple of weeks, though I got saved calling my upset of the Seahawks over the Ravens. This week I guarantee a winning record and if that is not achieved I will do some “Tebowing” every day next week. Now on to the picks….
Dallas Cowboys 27 at Washington Redskins 17
The Redskins keep this competitive since they are at home and this is a rivalry game, but they are just too anemic on offense to win. The Redskins need a quarterback more than anyone in the draft and it would probably be best for everyone involved to lose out and get Matt Barkley.
Carolina Panthers 24 at Detroit Lions 20
I struggled with this one and it could even be my upset special, but with reports the Stafford is playing with a broken finer on his throwing hand and seeing the disaster in Chicago last week to back that up on top of the Lions looking ahead to their HUGE game on Thanksgiving with the Packers I can see the Panthers quietly coming in here and leaving even quieter with the victory. The Panthers game last week could have been totally different had Greg Olsen not fumbled inside the ten when it was only a 7-0 game. I do not buy the fact that Cam Newton is tiring out yet. The Lions had a wakeup call in Chicago last week and we will see if they are mature enough to bounce back at home.
Lock of the Week
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14 at Green Bay Packers 34
I have lost 3 “Lck of the Weeks” games so I may have inadvertantly put the Pack on upset alert. That is if the Packers offense can be stopped and I don’t see that happening this week. I think I have figured out the why Josh Freeman and the Bucs are struggling so much this year question. Look at this brutal stretch they are in right now starting in Week 5 @ 8-1 SF, Week 6, 7-3 New Orleans, Week 7 6-3 Chicago in London, Week 8 was a bye, Week 9 @ 7-3 NO, Week 10 7-3 Houston, Week 11 9-0 Green Bay. That is why Josh Freeman and the rest of your Tampa Bay Buccanears are struggling this season.
Toss up of the week
Oakland Raiders 24 at Minnesota Vikings 17
I have no idea how to pick this one so I am going to pick this based off the fact that Carson Palmer looks to be back in form for the Oakland Raiders. When they get Darren Mcfadden back the Raiders should be back in the playoffs if they can hold off the Denver Tebow’s. A fun fact I learned during last week’s Packer VIkings game was the Vikings currently do not have a stadium for next season. Does Minnesota not realize that Los Angeles is aggressively waiting for a team to fall in their laps? They better get their act together real soon or the VIkings will become the Los Angeles VIkings real soon.
Buffalo 26 at Miami Dolphins 16
The Dolphins are a blown lead to Tim Tebow, a blown lead in the final seconds to Cleveland, and a blown lead in the 4th to the GIants from actually being 5-4 and in the playoff discussion. They are not as bad as everyone is perceiving them to be. The BIlls seem to be doing their annual suck the life out of Buffalo after they give them some excitement routine. My man Fitzpatrick comes back to form and the Bills outscore the Dolphins in this one.
Jacksonville Jaguars 12 at Cleveland Browns 15
Things that top the list of things I would rather do than watch this game are this week see the movie Twilight while this game is being played. Besides MJD is their even any fantasy players in this game? Both kickers should be picked up in fantasy leagues because this will be a field goal shootout.
Cincinnatti Bengals 20 at Baltimore Ravens 28
Joe Flacco had 52 pass attempts last week and only threw for 254 yards. How do you not put up at least 300 Joe?? On a more important note Ray Lewis is expected to miss his first game since 2007 with a foot injury. Are the Ravens the same defense without Ray Lewis?? We will soon find out.
Arizona Cardinals 20 at San Fransisco 49ers 17
This is one of the more underrated rivalries in football. These teams hate each other badly. Cardinals Defensive Tackle Darnell Dockett says it best according to quotes from Dan Bickley, “I can’t (bleeping) stand the 49ers and they can’t stand me either.” Darnell Dockett does not even shake hands with the 49ers before or after games. There is so much hate that former 49er David Bass now with the Giants said that he was most excited to see Arizona on the schedule because of how much he hated them. That is the sign of a rivalry. The Cardinals will be playing this as their Super Bowl while the Niners have much more important games this season including the Harbaugh bowl in Baltimore on Thanksgiving night. If John Skelton wins this one and then if they can beat St. Louis next week the Cardinals will return home at 5-6 with four of five games remaining at home. (Kevin Garnetts voice) ANYTHING IS POSSSSAAABBBBLLEEEEEE!!!!!
Seattle 9 at St. Louis Rams 21
The Seahawks go back to their losing ways away from Seattle. I also think this will be the week Sam Bradford breaks out. He has to one of these days right??
Game of the Week
Tennessee Titans 24 at Atlanta Falcons 31
This is a big game for both of these teams. The Titans are 2 games behind the Texans who now have Matt Leinart playing Quarterback for the rest of the year. That race is nowhere near over in the AFC South. The Falcons are 5-4 and need a win to keep pace not only in their division, but in the Wildcard race as well.
San Diego Chargers 31 at Chicago Bears 27
I am not picking this game on logic at all. The Chargers had 4 of their 5 offensive lineman miss practice on Wednesday and coming off a home loss to the Raiders while the Bears are coming off a couple of huge wins. I am picking the Chargers based on Phillip Rivers having a classic Rivers day and winging it around the field like he is capable of doing. I also have my fantasy hopes relying on RIvers so some of this may be wishful thinking.
Sunday Night Football
Philadelphia Eagles 13 at New York Giants 24
This game is not pickable unless we know Mike Vick is playing… Actually yes it is the Giants will win this game regardless of who is playing. The Eagles have reached that level. I have never seen a team as soft as the Eagles are. The Arizona Cardinals defense looked like a Top-5 defense last week against the Eagles. You had Steve smith actually fall down a yard short on a 3rd and long play when he easily could have made it if he would have taken a hit. I am not making this up either. Then again as soon as you give up on Mike VIck he comes up with a huge game and as soon as you feel comfortable picking Eli Manning he comes up with a terrible game. I will move on to the next game before I talk myself into the Eagles again.
Monday Night Football
Kansas City Chiefs 10 at New England Patriots 35
I hope Tirico, Gruden and Jaws have their blowout material ready again this week. Tyler Palko is going to be the QB for the Chiefs for probably the rest of the season. Palko played college ball at Pitt with Larry FItzgerald and he is also Larry’s traveling QB. Yes Traveling QB. He vacations with Fitzgerald during the offseason so Larry can work out and have someone throw balls to him. Unfortunately that will not help him out facing Tom Brady in New England on Monday NIght Football.
